Readings and Homework

I’m still working on this page, but for now here are the readings for the upcoming classes:

For Monday, February 3rd:

We may meet in the library, pending confirmation. Please check email before class and the course website for announcements.

Please read: This article on Genre from the Open Access textbook, Writing Commons

Please bring to class: links to three websites the visual design of which you appreciate. Be prepared to discuss why you chose the sites.


For Wednesday, February 5th:

We may meet in the library, pending confirmation. Please check email before class and the course website for announcements.

Please read: Preparing Job Materials, Establishing Your Professional Self, Writing the Conventional Resume, and The Art of the Pickup. These are all very short articles that will be instrumental to completing the first assignment.

Today we will be introducing the first formal assignment, the Resume and Cover Letter. I will upload the assignment sheet shortly


For Monday, February 10th

Find an example of a cover letter and a resume online (or from someone you know who’s willing to let you use this), for someone in your discipline. Print it out and bring it in.

Also find a job, internship, etc. you COULD apply to.


For Wednesday, February 19th

Print out 4 copies of your cover letter and resume assignment to workshop


For Monday, February 24th

Email a 250-500 word peer review letter to each member of your group. CC me

Please look over Lab Analysis Assignment and the annotated example essays on the Assignments page


For Monday, March 3rd

Please bring to class:  Three examples of lab reports online using a search engine or from friends who would be willing to let you analyze their work. Please do not use your own lab reports.


For Wednesday, March 5th

Please read: Understanding When Citations are Necessary  from Writing Commons. Also check out Purdue Owl’s IEEE Overview page to get a sense of how to cite your work.
